The Salida Spartans took to the road over Monarch Mountain to open their postseason, heading to Gunnison to take on the Cowboys.
The Cotopaxi Pirates made a late charge on Thursday night at Kim Branson, but couldn’t overcome a double digit deficit in their comeback attempt, falling 25-30 in the second round of the 2021 1A girls basketball postseason.
The Salida Spartans capped off their first season under Coach Lee Lewis with a win on the road at Banning Lewis.
The Cotopaxi Pirates and Custer County Bobcats were playing for league supremacy this year when we headed up to Westcliff for the action.
The annual Chaffee County Showdown was a bit different this year, with the boys in Buena Vista while the girls tussled in Salida.
The Cotopaxi girls basketball team earned an impressive 55-34 win over a scrappy Moffat Cowboys team, before they watched their boys struggle in a double dip in the San Luis Valley, with the Pirates surviving a 47-42 win.
The Salida Spartans couldn’t topple the Lions in Colorado Springs, but, man, did they give them a scare.
The Salida football team traveled to the eventual state champion Rifle Bears on a beautiful spring day on April 9th, but would fall to the Bears in a lopsided affair.
The Salida Spartans matched up with the Woodland Park Panthers for the first time as Tri-Peaks League foes, and took the big cats down with an 80-65 final score.
The Buena Vista Demons would split on the road in Ellicott, as the boys earned a 58-36 win, while the girls fell in a tough 43-29 loss.
At home, the Salida Spartans felt comfortable enough to roll to a win over Lamar during the basketball season, seeing a small run from the visiting team late, but able to earn the 67-55 win.
