Buena Vista’s next Regular Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and will be coordinated with the Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder. Voters will elect one (1) Mayor and three (3) Town Trustees to four-year terms commencing with a swearing-in ceremony at the November 24, 2026, Board of Trustees meeting and expiring in 2030. The seats currently held by Mayor Libby Fay and Trustees Cindie Swisher, Chris Sturm, and Maggie Huyck will be on the ballot.

Residents interested in running for office may begin circulating nominating petitions on August 4, 2026. Completed petitions must be filed with the Town Clerk no later than August 24, 2026. Candidate petition packets will be available at Town Hall.

The election will be conducted by mail ballot. Ballots will be mailed to all active registered voters beginning October 12, 2026. Voters are encouraged to verify or update their voter registration and mailing address before ballots are mailed. Registration updates may be completed online at www.GoVoteColorado.com or in person at any Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC) through Election Day.

Completed ballots may be returned by U.S. Mail (provided they are received by Election Day), deposited in an official county ballot drop box, or delivered to a VSPC during early voting or on Election Day. Voters who do not receive their ballot or need a replacement may contact the Chaffee County Clerk’s Office at 719-395-4004 or by email to request a replacement ballot.

VSPCs will offer same-day voter registration, replacement ballots, ballot drop-off services, and in-person voting. Locations include:

  • Chaffee County Public Safety Complex, 200 Steele Drive, Buena Vista
  • Chisholm Park Pavilion, 324 Hunt Street, Salida
  • Poncha Springs Town Hall, 333 Burnett Avenue, Poncha Springs

All VSPCs will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Early voting dates and hours, beginning the week before the election, will be announced by the Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder.

Voters may also deposit completed ballots at the secure, 24-hour official ballot drop boxes located at the Buena Vista Motor Vehicle Office, 112 Linderman Avenue, Buena Vista, and the Chaffee County Courthouse, 104 Crestone Avenue, Salida. In addition, Buena Vista Town Hall, 210 East Main Street, will serve as a staffed ballot drop-off location during regular business hours and from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
