Arkansas River Outfitters Association says its members are preparing for a full 2026 rafting and fishing season despite below-average snowpack and expectations for lower river flows this year.

Outfitters across the Arkansas River Valley report they are open, staffed and operating throughout the season, with trips continuing for a wide range of experience levels. Industry officials say reservoir storage and transbasin water, which supplement native river flows, are helping keep the river accessible, while outfitters adjust sections and trip formats as conditions change.

Several popular stretches of the river are expected to offer different experiences throughout the season. The Royal Gorge is anticipated to provide technical and engaging whitewater conditions, while Browns Canyon National Monument and Bighorn Sheep Canyon are expected to continue offering scenic rafting runs featuring a mix of rapids and calmer sections. Outfitters say the Numbers section is expected to have a more limited season this year.

Rafting remains a major contributor to the regional tourism economy and continues to support local communities throughout the Arkansas River Valley. Officials say early bookings have remained steady, reflecting continued demand and visitor confidence in the rafting experience.
