American Legion Post 51 once again helping Buena Vista honor the 4th of July

The 4th of July is right around the corner, and the good news for Chaffee County residents, is that both Buena Vista and Salida will be having a fireworks show.

American Legion Post 51 Commander Darryl Atherton

In Buena Vista, American Legion Post 51 is in charge of the celebration, and along with the OK from the Buena Vista Fire Department, once again they will be putting on a show.

The fireworks will be on Saturday evening at about 9 pm. Post 51 Commander Darryl Atherton says they are expecting a big crowd for the event, with no fireworks that he knew of in Fairplay, Breckenridge or Frisco, so he says those who are planning on attending should try to arrive early.

People arriving are also requested not to bring personal fireworks this year due to the dryness of conditions.

Atherton also says he has been asked about donations for next years show, as they did not go to local businesses this year for donations due to COVID. The Legion will be taking donations at the entrances to the show.

Atherton says you can also mail in donations if you would like to donate but can not attend on the 4th. The address is American Legion Post 51, P.O. Box 848, Buena Vista, CO 81211.
