A bond hearing is taking place today in Alamosa District Court for Barry Morphew, the man charged with allegedly murdering his wife after she vanished from their Maysville home six years ago.
Barry has been out on bond with terms of his release including that he be confined to his home at all times, with exceptions for medical appointments, meetings with his legal team, attending court or working.
Prosecutors accuse Morphew of committing a hit-and-run in Denver on August 26th, stating he is clearly visible and identifiable in video footage. According to prosecutors, Morphew struck two vehicles, offered a driver of one of the vehicles money to avoid involving police, refused to identify himself and fled the scene after learning police were being called.
According to a 9News report yesterday afternoon, the judge overseeing the case changed the terms of the bail to “cash only” on Friday, meaning that if Morphew wants to be freed again, he’d have to bring the full amount of $3 million. That decision could risk the determination of Morphew’s status as “indigent” to be taken away which provided him with court-appointed lawyers paid for by the state. If those lawyers were removed by this decision, the case, already six years old, would be further delayed, according to 9News legal analyst, Scott Robinson.
