Two Colorado State Patrol troopers were shot and wounded after a man opened fire during a traffic stop west of Woodland Park yesterday morning. The incident happened at about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, when a resident reported suspicious activity near milepost 286. The responding trooper attempted to make a traffic stop when the suspect opened fire, hitting him. The suspect then fled on foot.
A lock-down was put in place in the area as authorities searched for the suspect when a second trooper located the suspect and was also shot. He returned fire, hitting and killing the suspect, according to the Denver Gazette.
The two troopers were able to drive themselves to a hospital for treatment. One of the troopers was released from the hospital.
At this time, the suspect and troopers involved have not been identified.
