The Leadville Trail 100 is on, organizers say, at least for now.

Leadville Race Series organizers have announced that they were given the green light to continue with the remainder of their summer race series. The Silver Rush 50 race on July 6th was canceled citing the “ongoing impact of the Willow Fire.” The Leadville Traill 100 is scheduled for August 22nd.

The “Race Across the Sky” was first held in 1983 and has since become one of the most iconic ultramarathons attracting top athletes from around the globe. Updates and information can be found at their website: https://www.leadvilleraceseries.com/run/leadvilletrail100run/

While the Willow Fire is still burning, businesses and residents in Leadville are welcoming the event, especially since the town’s tourism numbers are down in the wake of the fire.

Lake County Tourism and Economic Development says “Leadville and Twin Lakes are very much open for business and continue to welcome visitors. Our restaurants, shops, lodging properties, museums, outfitters, attractions, and recreation providers are operating and ready to provide the authentic mountain experience people have come to expect.”
