Chaffee County got a fire scare on Friday when lightning started a fire 6 miles north of Salida, just north of Turret. The U.S. Forest Service called the fire the Stafford Fire. Crews were on the scene quickly and had the fire contained within a couple of hours.
Stage 2 Fire Restrictions remain in effect for all public and private lands in Chaffee, Park, Lake, Saguache and Fremont Counties.
Custer County has moved to Stage 3 Fire Restrictions. This is the highest level of fire restrictions.
Containment of the Aspen Acres Fire has grown to 61%. The fire remains at 100,000 acres. An Aspen Acres Community Meeting will take place tonight at Craver Middle School in Colorado City beginning at 7pm. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the Aspen Acres Fire Facebook page.
The Willow Fire in Lake County west of Leadville has grown to just over 7,100 acres with 37% containment.
The Gold Mountain Fire burning in Montrose, Ouray and Gunnison counties is almost 38,000 acres with 13% containment.
