The murder trial of Barry Morphew is now scheduled to begin in July 2027.
An Alamosa judge set the new trial date during a motions hearing held yesterday.
Barry Morphew is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, who was reported missing on Mother’s Day in 2020. Her remains were discovered in a shallow grave in Saguache County in 2023.
Morphew has pleaded not guilty and continues to maintain his innocence.
The trial had originally been scheduled for this year, but defense attorneys requested additional time to review what they described as “a mountain of discovery” in the case.
Defense attorneys, prosecutors, and Judge Amanda Hopkins agreed on the July 2027 trial date. The trial is expected to last approximately six weeks.
