Andy Rohrich has rescinded Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for unincorporated areas of Chaffee County following recent rainfall that has reduced wildfire risk across the region.

Fire restrictions on all Forest Service lands within the Pike National Forest and San Isabel National Forest have also been lifted.

While conditions have improved, officials are reminding all forest visitors to continue using caution when building and managing campfires.

Visitors should clear all flammable material within three feet of campfire rings and only build fires when they have a shovel and enough water available to completely extinguish them. Campfires should never be left unattended and should be kept small and manageable.

Before leaving any campsite, fires must be fully extinguished. Officials emphasize that if a fire is too hot to touch, it is too hot to leave. Every campfire should be considered “dead out” before visitors depart the area.
