A statewide seatbelt enforcement crackdown is now underway through the end of the month as law enforcement agencies ramp up patrols for the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
During the enforcement period, officers will focus on issuing citations to drivers and passengers who are not properly buckled up. Officials say drivers can also receive tickets if passengers in their vehicle are not wearing seatbelts.
Fines for failing to wear a seatbelt start at $65. Parents or caregivers caught transporting a child who is not properly restrained can face a minimum fine of $82.
Law enforcement agencies say the campaign is designed to encourage safe driving habits and reduce injuries and fatalities caused by crashes involving unrestrained occupants.
