Amazon has withdrawn its application to annex property into the town of Buena Vista, halting plans for a proposed last-mile distribution facility.

The company had been seeking to annex a 17-acre parcel located at the southeast edge of town. The site was intended for a 32,000-square-foot warehouse that would receive shipments from the Front Range, sort them, and distribute packages within a 60-mile radius.

Concerns over traffic impacts played a key role in the decision. Issues involving truck traffic at the intersection of Baylor Avenue and U.S. Highway 24, as well as nearby County Road 313, led the company to reconsider moving forward with the annexation.

The proposed project carried an estimated $25 million investment and was expected to bring approximately 25 full-time jobs to the area.

Libby Fay, mayor of Buena Vista, told the Chaffee County Times that Amazon had been cooperative throughout the process. She added that she hopes the company will consider alternative locations within town, including industrial-zoned land west of Highway 24, for a potential future facility.
