The U.S. Forest Service is moving forward with an improved camping management plan for areas near Leadville, Buena Vista, and Salida.
Officials say the first phases of implementation will focus on the Browns Creek area near Salida and the Clear Creek corridor west of Clear Creek Reservoir.
Throughout the spring and summer months, Forest Service staff will review a variety of resource conditions, including environmental impacts and site usage, to help determine the locations of designated dispersed campsites.
As part of the process, visitors may begin to notice new barriers and informational signs installed in some areas. In addition, new vault toilets may be added at select locations to help support recreation and protect natural resources.
The Forest Service says regular dispersed camping opportunities will continue during the review period, while staff evaluate the best locations for future designated campsites.
Officials encourage visitors to follow posted signs and help protect the area’s natural resources while the planning process continues.
