Avalanche Warning Issued for Much of Colorado Following Recent Storm

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has issued an Avalanche Warning for much of the state following the latest round of snowfall.

Forecasters say this past week’s storm delivered strong winds and several feet of snow on top of an unusually shallow and weak snowpack. The combination has created highly unstable conditions in the backcountry.

Officials warn that large and dangerous avalanches can be easily triggered on most steep slopes. Travel in or below avalanche terrain is not recommended until conditions improve.

Backcountry users are urged to check current avalanche forecasts and avoid risky terrain during the warning period.
