A former Colorado prison inmate will speak about his journey as part of Colorado Mountain College’s Collegiate Peaks Forum series in Salida.

David Carrillo was sentenced to life without parole at the age of 19 and spent more than 30 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections before being granted clemency in 2023. During his incarceration, Carrillo pursued an education, beginning with his first college course through Colorado Mountain College.

Carrillo is the author of the recently published memoir, “Kiko: From Life Without Parole to Life with Purpose,” which explores how he transformed hard-earned lessons into tools for justice, education, and reform.

His talk is scheduled for Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in the Salida High School Auditorium. The event is open to the public.
