Flu cases continue to increase across Colorado, with a sharp rise in hospitalizations reported over the past week.
According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, nearly 800 people are currently hospitalized with the flu, up from just over 500 hospitalizations one week ago.
Health officials say the highest hospitalization rates are among people aged 75 and older, as well as infants younger than six months old.
The state expects flu-related hospitalizations to continue climbing in the coming weeks as people return to work and school following the holiday season, increasing opportunities for the virus to spread.
Health officials continue to encourage preventive measures, including vaccination and staying home when sick.
