The City of Salida is marking New Year’s Eve tonight with a series of festive community events, highlighted by the annual Salida New Year’s Big Heart Drop.
The celebration takes place at the intersection of Sackett Avenue and F Street, where the Salida Fire Department’s ladder truck will raise the iconic heart 50 feet into the air. The heart drop is scheduled for 9 p.m., with activities beginning at 8:30 p.m., offering families and community members an early and festive way to welcome the new year.
Also tonight, Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort will host a New Year’s Eve celebration featuring Santa Rios performing the music of Santana. The event begins at 8:30 p.m. and includes complimentary hors d’oeuvres, a champagne toast at midnight, and a cash bar. Guests are encouraged to dress in their best 1970s-inspired attire. Tickets are $70 and available through Eventbrite.com.
The celebrations continue into New Year’s Day with the annual New Year’s Day 5K fun run or walk. The event starts at 10 a.m. at the Salida Golf Club, with participants finishing at the same location. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers, and costumes are encouraged. Registration costs $25 and is available at cityofsalida.com/recreation.
Together, the events offer multiple ways for residents and visitors to celebrate the arrival of the new year in Salida.
