Strong and potentially damaging winds are expected to sweep across the state again today, prompting officials to issue multiple weather and fire-related warnings.
High Wind Warnings and Red Flag Fire Warnings remain in effect as fire danger reaches critical levels. Open burning is strictly prohibited due to the heightened risk of wildfire spread.
According to the National Weather Service, parts of the state could experience hurricane-force winds, calling the situation “dangerous.” Forecasters warn of sustained winds ranging from 45 to 55 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 100 miles per hour along the I-25 corridor.
In response to the extreme conditions, utility companies are once again implementing Public Safety Power Shutoffs. Crews will intentionally shut off electricity in certain areas to reduce the risk of sparking wildfires during the high-wind event.
Residents are urged to secure loose items, avoid outdoor burning, and prepare for possible power outages as hazardous conditions persist throughout the day
