Barry Morphew, the man accused of murdering his wife, Suzanne Morphew, and burying her in a shallow grave in the San Luis Valley, made his first court appearance in Colorado yesterday following his extradition from Arizona.
Morphew, now charged with first-degree murder, was seen wearing orange-and-white jail clothing and smiled at one of his daughters as he entered the courtroom.
He was arrested earlier this month in Arizona, where he had been living under the alias Lee Moore, after a Grand Jury in Colorado indicted him in connection to Suzanne’s disappearance and death. Suzanne Morphew went missing from the Maysville area in May 2020, and her remains were found in September 2023 in a shallow grave in Saguache County.
🔍 Court Hearing Highlights:
- Judge Amanda Hopkins issued a strict media order to control pre-trial publicity.
- Prosecutors stated they are prepared for trial and will provide grand jury documents and a witness list within three weeks.
- Defense attorneys did not contest Morphew’s $3 million cash-only bail, but reserved the right to do so at a future hearing.
- Next court date: September 2 for a status hearing.
Barry Morphew remains in custody at the Alamosa County Jail.
