Crestone Eagle Community Media has announced that The Crestone Eagle, a longstanding monthly newspaper in the San Luis Valley since 1989, has suspended operations due to financial insolvency.
In a statement, the board of directors cited insufficient resources to meet current obligations. The newspaper began operating as a nonprofit in 2022 but has now joined a growing list of Colorado newspapers that have ceased operations this year.
The closure marks a significant loss for the San Luis Valley community, which has relied on The Crestone Eagle for local news for over three decades.
