Evacuations are in effect for a one-mile radius in Park County in the area of County Road 403 and Alpine Meadow Lane for the 403 Fire.
Fire officials have also added an evacuation order for Wilson Lakes and Forest Glenn Subdivisions due to the wildfire.
Officials with Park and Teller Counties briefed the public last night as to the state of the 403 Fire. Teller County Sheriff Jason Mikesell says they are working to protect at least $600 million worth of structures in the area of the fire. He says he does not have an exact number of homes impacted.
County Commissioners signed a declaration of emergency that went into effect at midnight. It will make way for more resources to help fight the fire.
At this time, officials say the fire in just over 1,000 acres and not contained due to high winds. At last report, the fire was 70 acres in size. Air support is unable to take part due to the winds.
Shelters have been set up at the Lake George Community Center and the Woodland Park Community Church.
No information has been given as to the cause of the fire.
Fire danger is high today due to high winds, low humidity, and grasses that have seen little to no rain throughout March.
