This week is National Public Health Week. Public Health agencies would like to gratefully and publicly acknowledge the hard work and dedication that public health staff have shown under incredibly difficult circumstances over the past two years.

COVID-19 case numbers remain low in the San Luis Valley. There were 8 new cases reported in the SLV in the past week. Nearly all cases in Colorado continue to be the Omicron variant, with estimates of 16% of recent cases being the BA.2 Omicron subvariant. While masks are currently optional in most public settings, you may expect to be asked to wear a mask in healthcare settings.

Households with iHealth COVID-19 rapid tests on hand that were obtained through the Colorado rapid at-home testing program should note that the FDA has extended the shelf life of these tests from 6 months to 9 months.

Staying up to date with all recommended COVID-19 vaccine doses is the best way to keep up protection for you, your loved ones, and the community. Everyone ages 5 years and older should get at least two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Everyone ages 12 years and older should get at least three doses for the highest level of protection. It is recommended that some people get four or five doses depending on their age and medical conditions.

Upcoming mobile vaccine clinics are scheduled as follows:

  • Wednesday April 6th, 9am-6pm at the Alamosa Public Library
  • Friday April 8th, 11am-7pm at ASU Richardson Hall, 208 Edgemont Blvd in Alamosa
  • Saturday April 9th, 9am-3pm at the Car Show at Center Park in Center
