Chaffee County Increases to 6.35% Positivity Rate [Covid-19 Update]

Chaffee County Public Health is reporting 46 new Covid-19 cases in the last 7 days, 98 in the last 14 days, for a 2-week positivity rate of 6.35%.

Two of the new cases required hospitalization.     

Lake County is reporting 22 new Covid-19 cases and a total of 78 active cases.   

There are currently 118 known cases of Covid-19 in the San Luis Valley with 2 in Saguache County and 63 in Alamosa County.   

Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center is hosting a Covid-19 community vaccination clinic Friday at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds.   

This vaccination clinic is available to healthcare workers, first responders and people 65 and older.   

An online scheduler is available to schedule your appointment. A link to the scheduler can be found at hrrmc.com.

Chaffee County Public Health invites adults aged 65-69 and licensed childcare workers to register for any open slots from February 8th onward.  In the coming days, Chaffee County Public Health will be adding days and slots to its clinic schedule as long as they are confident that there will be adequate vaccine inventory.   

Frontline essential workers and Coloradans ages 16-64 with two or more high-risk conditions will be able to start getting vaccinated in early March.   

The online scheduler can be found at chaffeecounty.rsvpify.com.  If the scheduler is full, check back frequently.   

Starting February 11, the federal government will deliver vaccines directly to select pharmacies across the country.   

For those wanting to sign up to be vaccinated, you should first meet the state’s standards for eligibility and then check availability on their local pharmacy’s website.   

Covid-19 testing continues in Chaffee County.    

For those looking to receive a Covid-19 test in the north end of the county, Valley-Wide Health Systems is offering testing Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.       

Valley-Wide will bill your health insurance.  However, if you are uninsured, the test is free.       

To register for a test in BV through Valley-Wide, call 719-395-8610, and choose the option to speak with a nurse.       

Testing in Salida remains Monday through Thursday at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds.  Appointments for testing in Salida are now being make online.  Make an appointment the day before testing is held by going to curative.com. 

Chaffee County Public Health has launched “Chaffee’s Got HEART.”  County residents are encouraged to take the pledge to follow the 5 commitments to containment:                 

  1. Hang at home if sick.                     
  2. Excel at hand washing.                     
  3. Always wear a mask in public.                     
  4. Respect social distancing.                      
  5. Test if you have symptoms.
