Your Vote – 2021 Election Results

Results from yesterday’s election are in. 

In the Salida City Council Ward 3 race, incumbent Harald Kasper defeated challenger Adam Martinez 472 to 159. 

Dominique Naccarato ran unopposed for the Ward 1 seat as did Justin Critelli in Ward 2. Former Ward 1 Councilman Dan Shore ran unopposed for Mayor. 

In the Buena Vista School Board races Nancy Best defeated Erik Phillips 1,667 to 1,208 for the District D seat and Jessica Crites won the At Large seat by defeating Terri Gerstmeyer 2,158 to 639. 

In the Salida School Board races, District 2 incumbent Jodi Breckenridge Petit defeated challenger Abby Jefferson 2,834 to 1,500 votes. In the District 3 race Mandy Paschall received 3,132 votes to write-in candidate Jennifer Adamson’s 487 and in District 4, incumbent Joseph Smith defeated Catherine Rich 2,812 to 1,418. 

In other area elections of note:

Custer County voters said no to raising property taxes to construct an $18 million Justice Center by an almost 2-to-1 margin, 1,418 voted no to 792 yes votes. 

A campaign to increase funding for affordable housing efforts in the City of Leadville ended successfully with 70 percent of Leadville voters saying yes to increasing the lodging tax to fund affordable and community housing projects. 

For the fourth time, Canon City residents have turned down a proposed community recreation center. Voters rejected a $30 million community recreation and aquatic center with 5,414 voting no to 3,747 in favor.

In statewide issues, Proposition 119 which would have raised the tax on marijuana to fund after school academic programs failed with 55 percent saying no to the proposal.

The other two state questions faired even worse. 

Proposition 120 failed by 57 percent. 120 would was designed to lower property taxes. 

57 percent of the voters also said no to Amendment 78.
