Xcel Energy is alerting customers across western and southern Colorado about the possibility of Public Safety Power Shutoffs beginning as early as tomorrow due to heightened wildfire risk.
According to the utility, crews are closely monitoring weather conditions that include strong winds, low relative humidity, and increasingly dry fuels, all of which create dangerous fire conditions. If necessary, power could be proactively shut off starting tomorrow morning in several areas, including the San Luis Valley and Saguache County.
These Public Safety Power Shutoffs are used as a precautionary measure to reduce the risk of power lines sparking wildfires during extreme weather.
Customers in potentially affected areas are encouraged to stay informed, prepare for possible outages, and take steps to ensure safety as conditions develop.
