Westcliffe Chiropractor Accused of Unlawful Sexual Contact Pleaded ‘No Contest’

The Westcliffe chiropractor accused of unlawful sexual contact by multiple victims pleaded no contest this week in Custer County District Court to an amended charge of criminal attempt to commit assault in the second degree, a Class 5 felony, with no sexual factual basis.

The case involves four female patients who allege that 79-year-old Dr. Luis Marquez was sexually inappropriate during his treatments. 

As part of the plea deal, Marquez will relinquish his license to practice chiropractic care, be required to complete three years of supervised probation, take part in restorative justice and complete a mental health evaluation. The resolution includes a stipulation that there is no unlawful sexual factual basis and no jail time will be imposed. 

Marquez made a statement, apologizing to the court.

Westcliffe community and the women involved in the case for his actions “that made them uncomfortable and breached their boundaries and trust.”
