Here’s your forecast from Heart of The Rockies Radio:
Sunday will bring a mix of sunshine, strong winds, and a few lingering snow showers across central and southern Colorado, with the chilliest conditions expected in the high country.
Salida & Buena Vista
Residents in Salida and Buena Vista can expect mostly sunny skies throughout the day, but it will be quite windy. Afternoon highs should reach around 42°F, while northwest winds of 30–35 mph will create blustery conditions. Gusts could reach up to 55 mph, making it feel colder and potentially impacting travel for high-profile vehicles.
San Luis Valley
The San Luis Valley will also see mostly sunny skies with a high near 40°F, but strong winds will again be the main weather story. Northwest winds of 25–30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected. These winds may kick up patchy blowing dust between noon and 3 p.m., which could briefly reduce visibility in open areas.
Leadville & Fairplay
In the high country, conditions will be colder and more unsettled. Snow showers are likely before noon, followed by partial sunshine during the afternoon. High temperatures will struggle to reach 18°F, and wind chill values could fall between -10°F and 0°F. Northwest winds around 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, will keep things feeling bitterly cold. Snow accumulation is expected to remain light, with less than a half inch possible.
Overall, Sunday will feature gusty northwest winds across much of the region, with colder temperatures and light snow lingering in the higher elevations.
