Wayne K. Stone, age 80 of Salida, passed away on August 4, 2026 in Sterling, CO. Mr. Stone was born on June 14, 1946 in Craig, CO to Orville Keith and Mildred (Smyth) Stone. Wayne had many passions in life including: NASCAR, his tractors, and hit and miss motors, but nothing was more important than his family.
Wayne graduated from Salida High School in 1965. After graduation, he set out to make the most out of his life. Anyone who knew him knew he always did things with all of his heart. In 1974, Wayne met Helen. He knew she was going to be his rock. Wayne won her heart by asking her on a date to the races. After just a few months, they were married on August 9, 1974. Their marriage would last just shy of 52 years. Together they had five children, leading to 8 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Wayne always joked he was building a baseball team. He would tell anyone about his family no matter where he was.
Wayne was known throughout the community and he had a wealth of knowledge in mechanics, which made him someone who everyone trusted to work on their trucks at Stone’s Truck Repair. He enjoyed helping anyone he could. Wayne was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Sharon and aunt and uncle John and Katherine Smyth. He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years Helen Stone, children DuWayne (Jessica) Stone, Donna (Gary) Mingle, Stephannie Stone, James (Aubrey) Stone, and Charles Stone. Grandchildren Cassandra, Emilee, Kevin, Hunter and Norbert, as well as 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services are set for 10:00 AM Friday August 14, 2026 at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at lewisandglenn.com. Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home
