About an hour after sunset, look up to see Comet Neowise in the northwestern sky.
Comet Neowise has been visible in our skies since early July. Officially named “C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE),” the comet will make its closest approach to us on July 23rd, passing at some 64 million miles from Earth.
Neowise has been gradually appearing higher in the sky each night. You’ll find it almost directly below the Big Dipper constellation.
To see the comet, face northwest, just after sunset. Avoid trees or buildings to have a clear view of the northwest horizon.
