Visitors Overwhelm Great Sand Dunes National Park

Too many people are visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park for its current infrastructure to keep up, according to park staff, who want the public to weigh in on a plan to improve it.

For decades, there were an average of 250,000 to 300,000 annual visits to the park, but that’s all changed.  In the past six years, annual visits have reached nearly 600,000, impacting the park’s natural and cultural resources.

The park is developing concepts to help address the issues.  Add your input by going to parkplanning.nps.gov.
