Last week during National Police Week two Chaffee County Deputies, Thomas Sanders and Kyle Baxter, traveled to Washington D.C. to honor the late Chaffee County Sheriff Lucien Morgan who was added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument.  Sheriff Morgan lost his life in the line of duty on May 12, 1881 and had not been honored until this week.  Deputy Sanders and Deputy Baxter both participated in the national police service memorial and the candlelight vigil.

Chaffee County Sheriff Andy Rohrich said in a press release, “Sheriff Morgan was not married and did not have any children.  His law enforcement family was all that he left behind to honor him.  ‘It’s about time’ is an understatement but our agency was honored to be the generation that recognized him.  Sheriff Morgan served honorably for the citizens of Chaffee County and was part of establishing what we are today.  May he forever rest in peace.”
