Turner-Stanley Face Campaign Violation Allegations in Run For DA

The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office yesterday dismissed one of two complaints filed against District Attorney Kaitlin Turner for alleged campaign violations.

The Canon City Daily Record is reporting that complaints to the Secretary of State’s Office have been filed against both candidates vying for District Attorney of the 11th Judicial District, Turner, the incumbent and Democratic candidate, and Republican candidate Linda Stanley.

The Secretary of State said the complaint of illegally displaying the official logo of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office on her Facebook page filed by the chairman of the Fremont County Republican Party failed to “allege sufficient facts to support a factual and legal basis for the violation of law alleged in the complaint.”

The second complaint against Turner alleges infringement of First Amendment rights for comments being removed from her Facebook page.

Turner’s husband, Lawrence, filed a complaint against Stanley alleging illegal campaigning, prohibited contribution and failure to report expenditures.

Stanley said the concerns regarding campaign reporting have been handled by her compliance committee.

The League of Women Voters of Chaffee County will host a District Attorney Virtual Candidate Forum on Monday beginning at 6 pm.  Both candidates say they plan to participate.
