Travel conditions across Colorado are expected to deteriorate this weekend as winter weather impacts the region, bringing slick and snow-covered roads. Drivers are urged to use caution and plan ahead as conditions may change rapidly.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) reminds travelers that all commercial vehicles are required to carry chains during the winter months. In addition, CDOT may implement the Passenger Vehicle Chain Law, which would require all vehicles—regardless of whether they are equipped with all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive—to carry chains or approved alternate traction devices.

Along with challenging road conditions, residents and travelers should also prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures, which could worsen icy conditions and increase the risk of dangerous travel, especially during overnight and early morning hours.

Officials encourage motorists to monitor weather forecasts, check road conditions before traveling, and ensure vehicles are properly equipped for winter driving.
