Teller County Issues “Local Disaster Emergency”

An equipment operator in Teller County escaped an avalanche unharmed over the weekend, but the county says it serves as a reminder of just how dangerous conditions are following last week’s massive snowstorm.

The worker was on Teller County Road 88, also known as Shelf Road, when he found himself in the path of the slide.  Most of Teller County are at level three out of five on the avalanche danger scale.

Teller County was hit especially hard by the storm, receiving several feet of snow in places.  The county has declared a local disaster emergency based on extremely high snow accumulation and the strain it’s putting on county emergency resources.
