A semi-truck’s failure to stop at the intersection of highways 94 and 71 south of Limon caused a fatal crash early this morning. According to the Colorado State Patrol, a 2022 Volvo semi hauling a trailer was traveling eastbound on Highway 94 as a 2014 brown Buick Enclave was traveling southbound on Highway 71 approaching the intersection with Highway 94. The semi failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign and struck the Buick’s passenger side. Both vehicles went off the roadway.

The driver of the Buick, a 45-year-old male out of Model, Colorado, was pronounced dead on scene. The passenger of the Buick, a 17-year-old female, was transported by air to a metro area hospital with serious injuries. The semi-truck driver, a 39-year-old male from Washington state, was transported by ground to a nearby hospital with unknown extent of injuries.

Portions of the eastbound lanes of Highway 94 were shut down and not long after, at 6:36 a.m., portions of the westbound lanes were also closed. Both lanes have now re-opened. Updates on the status of the injured will be reported as they come in.
