The Salida City Council will discuss the Methodist Mountain Fire Mitigation Project tonight when they meet for a work session beginning at 6 pm.
The Envision Forest Health Council is conducting a large wildfire mitigation project within the foothills of Methodist Mountain.
The Forest Service is seeking comments on a proposal which would reopen roads but prohibit camping within Decker Fire burn areas on Methodist Mountain.
The Decker Fire exploded yesterday, growing to 3,746 acres, a 1,500 acre jump in one day.
Last night (Oct. 1st), power was cut to Methodist Mountain as the Decker Fire crested the peak. We were on the front line.
[Updated] The Decker Fire evacuation point at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds has moved.
[Updated] There has been an evacuation order for Methodist Mountain issued by the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office.
[Updated] This is the second consecutive day with no measurable growth of the fire. The fire is still listed at 846 acres.
Chaffee County Emergency Services alerted us that the smoke people are seeing above Methodist Mountain is from a fire in the San Luis Valley.
