The Salida Spartans took to the road over Monarch Mountain to open their postseason, heading to Gunnison to take on the Cowboys.
The Buena Vista boys basketball team was a few bounces of the ball away from a completely different result in their 2021 postseason appearance against the Coal Ridge Titans, but things just wouldn’t fall their way, falling 44-42 to end their season.
The Lake County Panthers couldn’t keep their momentum together in their second round matchup in the 2021 boys basketball postseason for 2A hoops, as they fell 68-41 in the final game of the season, capping off a 10-4 season.
This edition of the Sports in the Rockies Coaches Show features Dan R talking with Lisa Yates from Salida schools, as well as the Lake County Panthers skiing team fresh off of their state competition.
The Buena Vista boys headed to their rescheduled game with Woodland Park, and were able to close out the first meeting against the Panthers with a solid 66-60 victory. Catch the replay here if you missed it with Dave Close and Len Gates!
The Cotopaxi Pirates and Custer County Bobcats were playing for league supremacy this year when we headed up to Westcliff for the action.
The annual Chaffee County Showdown was a bit different this year, with the boys in Buena Vista while the girls tussled in Salida.
Buena Vista girls and boys basketball took the opening spots before giving way to the Lake County Panthers to talk some skiing action, and to Demon wrestling to talk about how their work on the mats is going.
The Cotopaxi girls basketball team earned an impressive 55-34 win over a scrappy Moffat Cowboys team, before they watched their boys struggle in a double dip in the San Luis Valley, with the Pirates surviving a 47-42 win.
The Salida Spartans matched up with the Woodland Park Panthers for the first time as Tri-Peaks League foes, and took the big cats down with an 80-65 final score.
The Buena Vista Demons would split on the road in Ellicott, as the boys earned a 58-36 win, while the girls fell in a tough 43-29 loss.
