Snowpack Jumps, Driving Hazardous, Avalanche Danger Considerable

avalanche.state.co.us

Colorado snowpack improved greatly over the weekend with many mountain locations picking up over 2 feet of snow.

Monarch Mountain is reporting 38 inches out of this storm, Ski Cooper picked up 28 inches in the last 3 days.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center is grading the avalanche danger in the state as Considerable, meaning that dangerous avalanche conditions exist.  Backcountry enthusiasts are being warned to stay away from avalanche terrain the next few days.

A 21-year-old man was buried in an avalanche at Steamboat Springs Ski Resort yesterday afternoon, but was dug out after spending nine minutes under the snow.

Difficult travel conditions exist.  Drivers are urged to take it slow and to leave a safe space behind the vehicle ahead.
