One man has been confirmed dead after Chaffee County Communications Center received a call of a shooting at a residence in Poncha Springs last night.
Personnel from both the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office and the Salida Police Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival they found 1 male, 37-year-old Vincent Stephen suffering from gunshot wounds. Chaffee County EMS transported Stephen to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Personnel from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office secured the scene and CBI was requested for assistance.
I person was taken into custody as being involved in the shooting however the circumstances that led to the shooting are still under investigation.
The scene of the shooting continues to be secured by the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office.
The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete.

The residence is located off Poncha Avenue a block west of the Highway 285 intersection.
