The Salida boys golf team will be interesting to watch this season. The core of the team is young, as they work under new coach Barry Spence.

Spence has been in this position before, working for the third time as the Salida head coach of the golf program. He comes in with plenty of experience, and while this season will be a learning curve for the golfers on the team, he is hoping the next few years will see the program grow and develop.

As far as the athletes on the course, Salida will be young. That is both good and bad, as with a new face to these players in the coach, it will help to start fresh with most of the members of the team. However, on the downside, there will be plenty of growing pains in early tournaments this season.

I do expect by the end of the year, several of the Salida golfers will have found a rhythm and should be competing well by seasons end, but don’t expect for this season to see anyone sporting Salida to make an appearance at the state meet.
