Colorado Department of Transportation Updates Highway 285 Construction Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has initiated a 20-mile resurfacing and 3-mile widening project just outside of Fairplay.

Designed to improve safety and ride quality. The project includes 3-miles of passing lanes in each direction south of Fairplay. It also includes culvert extensions, surface improvements and guardrail updates.

Update on The Highway 285 Resurfacing Project for the Week of August 18

Road Closure – Black Bucktail Street at US 285 Closed Aug. 18 through Friday, Sept. 20: Black Bucktail Street at US 285 (milepost 175.5) will be closed for various construction activities. Local traffic detour use Kokanee Road to Trout Road.

Daily Flagger Operation – 6 am to 8 pm, Monday, Aug. 19 through Thursday, Aug. 23: Intermittent flagger operation to allow for trucks to access US 285 (between milepost 175-178).

Northbound Single Lane Closure – Thursday, August 22, 8 am to 5 pm.
Northbound single lane mobile closure (between milepost 175 – 178) for surveying. Flagging operation with alternating traffic and reduced speed limits.

Drivers are asked to please pay attention when driving near the US 285 Resurfacing Project. Speed reduction down to 40 mph in construction zone during the duration of the project. Slow down, observe speed limits, and avoid distractions. Construction will take place during 6 am to 8 pm, Monday through Thursday, and sunrise to Noon on Friday.

Alternative routes are suggested.Construction schedules are subject to change based on weather/unforeseen circumstances and schedule changes.
