Search Continues For Two Males That Could Be Armed

On Tuesday June 1st, 2021 at approximately 5:39 am, a citizen of Salida observed two suspicious male subjects loading lumber onto a trailer being pulled by a white full size truck.

While the citizen was observing the two men, they got into the vehicle and left the scene. The reporting party called for police response and began following the subjects at a safe distance. As officers with the Salida Police Department were responding, the truck left the city limits and traveled west to US Highway 285.

As Salida Police Officers converged on the area, the reporting caller observed a passenger in the vehicle fire multiple rounds from a handgun outside the passenger side window. Salida Police Officers initiated pursuit of the vehicle near US Highway 285 and County Road 140. The pursuit traveled a short distance into the Eagle Moon Ranch subdivision where the vehicle crashed and it is believed both suspects fled on foot.

The Chaffee County Combined Tactical Team was activated and a large scale search operation was launched by a joint team consisting of member of the Salida Police Department, Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Department of Corrections, US Bureau of Land Management and Chaffee County Search and Rescue.

After several hours of searching the event was scaled back, and, as of the time, the suspects remain at large and their identity has not been confirmed.
