San Luis Valley Continues To Spike COVID-19 Cases

Twenty-one new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the San Luis Valley since Friday.

12 cases of COVID-19 are from Alamosa County, 2 each for Conejos and Mineral, 4 from Rio Grande, and 1 for Saguache County.

The total number of cumulative cases is now 420 with 98 known active cases.

New cases of COVID-19 statewide rose for the second week in a row, and state health officials think at least some of that increase is due to changes in behavior.

The Colorado Department of Public Health reported 1,716 new cases of the virus last week.  The last time Colorado’s new coronavirus cases rose two weeks in a row was in early April.

State health department spokesman Ian Dickson said yesterday that some of the rise in cases is because of testing, but the increase is also due to an increase in Coloradans changing their behavior, especially socializing in larger groups without proper distancing or mask wearing.
