The City of Salida has announced plans for a family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration in downtown Salida.

The city will host the Salida New Year’s Big Heart Drop on December 31 at the intersection of Sackett Avenue and F Street. In a unique local tradition, the Salida Fire Department’s ladder truck will raise a large heart 50 feet into the air, with the ceremonial drop scheduled for 9 p.m.

City officials say the earlier drop time is designed to make the celebration accessible and enjoyable for families and residents of all ages, offering a festive alternative to late-night events.

Activities will begin at 8:30 p.m., leading up to the Big Heart Drop and the community countdown to the New Year.
