Salida releases guidelines for summer practices and activities

The CHSAA High School Moratorium on sports wraps up on June 1st, leaving the decisions of how to proceed to the county health departments and school districts themselves for the summer months.

The Salida School District has released their guidelines for coaches to follow over the summer.

The following guidelines will go into effect June 1, 2020 through July 31, 2020. Any changes to social distancing practices at the state or county level that could change these guidelines will be communicated to each program in a timely manner.

1. All indoor facilities for athletics are closed until further notice.

2. All outdoor facilities will be open and available for scheduling practices/workouts under the following conditions:
A. The coach must complete a Symptom Check on each player and coach before and after practice. NOTE: Use the Employee Health Screening Form attached to this email.
B. No more than 1 coach and 9 athletes can be present at one training. A field can be split into multiple training areas if you keep the groups separated with no intermingling. This will need to be communicated when scheduling practices.
C. Coaches and athletes must maintain a 6 ft. distance between each other.
D. A mask is required for coaches and athletes for the entire practice. Salida School District nurse Cari Beasley recommends cutting the sleeve off of an old t-shirts to use as a mask. A buff can also be used.
E. No shared equipment.
F. Sanitation products should be available before, during, and after practices. I ask that coaches sanitize all gates, equipment, handles, etc. that have been touched during a practice.

3. Head coaches are to arrange practice times and location through the athletic department. Programs are required to be on the school district calendar before any authorized use is allowed. This accountability piece is non-negotiable.

4. Each player and coach must have their own water bottle for practice. Please make sure players are given breaks and drinking plenty of fluid.

5. If at any time these guidelines are not being followed, you will be putting the program and the school district at risk of losing this privilege.”

Hopes are that the indoor facitilites will be able to open up in the next two month as well.
