Salida Mountain Trails (SMT) and the City of Salida Parks and Recreation Department are moving forward with plans to significantly expand the Salida Bike Park, and they’re inviting the community to help shape what comes next.

Residents are encouraged to attend a public Open House on Monday, November 17, from 5–8 p.m. at the SteamPlant Annex. The event will give attendees a chance to explore potential new features, such as a pump track, jump lines, a drop zone, and other bike-friendly elements, and offer input on the park’s next phase of development. Feedback collected will guide SMT and the City as they collaborate with design specialists to create a concept plan.

“The pilot project we opened last December has been a huge hit,” said Jon Terbush, executive director of Salida Mountain Trails. “Now, we’re dreaming big about opportunities to add more features and create a premier bike park to better serve riders of all ages and abilities in our community.”

The Bike Park saw more than 10,000 uses within just weeks of opening last winter, an impressive number given Salida’s small population and the season’s cold weather conditions. Situated at the F Street Trailhead in downtown Salida, the park provides a safe, fun, and challenging space for riders to build skills and enjoy the outdoors.

To lead the design process, SMT has partnered with IMBA Trail Solutions, a globally recognized expert in bike-optimized facilities. The organization has helped communities across the country develop high-quality bike parks, and SMT is confident they will bring the same expertise to Salida.

SMT will fund both planning and construction for the project, ensuring no financial impact to the City as it continues to tighten its budget.
