Salida’s elected officials and senior city staff stepped back into the city’s frontier past this week during a private Wild West History Tour led by local historian Steve Chapman of Steve’s Original Salida Walking Tours.

The private tour brought together members of the Salida City Council and city leadership for an immersive walk through Colorado’s largest National Historic District, exploring the colorful characters, dramatic events, and lesser-known stories that shaped Salida during its early years.

Steve Chapman, founder of Steve’s Original Salida Walking Tours, said these tours provide an opportunity for residents, organizations, and community leaders to see familiar streets through a new lens.

“Even people who work in downtown Salida every day are often surprised by the stories hidden behind the buildings they pass. Understanding our history helps deepen our appreciation for the community we’ve inherited and continue to build,” he said.

Mr. Chapman offers public Wild West history tours, historic downtown tours, ghost tours, true crime tours, and private group experiences throughout the year.
