Salida City Council Purchases Railroad Land

The Salida City Council voted last night to purchase 64 acres in the Arkansas Hills area from Union Pacific Railroad for $222,539.

The purchase agreement states that the 64-acres must be used for open space.

Councilman Mike Bowers was the only dissenting vote, saying he would rather that money toward affordable housing.

Bowers also was the only no vote on a resolution to support Salida’s annexation into the Colorado Mountain College taxing district.
