Robert Backofen February 16, 1946 – June 16, 2026 Robert Backofen passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 16, 1946, in Rockville, Connecticut, Robert grew up with a strong sense of duty, honor, and service. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying the values of integrity, dedication, and selflessness throughout his life. In 1970, Robert married the love of his life, Karen, and together they built a life filled with love, commitment, and family. Shortly after their marriage, they made their home in Salida, Colorado, where they became valued members of the community and formed lifelong friendships. Robert will always be remembered as a man of unwavering integrity and exceptional character. He generously gave of himself to friends, neighbors, and anyone in need, never hesitating to offer a helping hand, wise counsel, or quiet support. His kindness, strength, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen, whose memory he carried close to his heart. Robert is survived by his loving daughter, Amy Chamberlain; his beloved son-in-law, Jacob Chamberlain; and his granddaughter, Abigail Albright. He also leaves behind many friends and extended family members who will miss his steady presence, generous spirit, and enduring friendship. Though his passing leaves a profound void, Robert’s legacy of love, service, integrity, and compassion will continue to live on in the lives he touched.
