Flooding over the weekend caused damage all across our area. Howard was hit especially hard with flood waters. The Arkansas River saw a 100-yard debris field of mostly downed trees below Lower Browns Canyon. Fremont Count Roads 45 and 47 in Howard are closed due to flash flooding. There is no estimated time of reopening.

With rain in the forecast this week residents near the Arkansas River and other bodies of water should be aware flash flooding that can occur within minutes after the onset of a rainstorm. Even areas that are not traditionally flood-prone are at risk, due to changes to the landscape caused by fire. Residents need to protect their homes and assets with flood insurance now before a weather event occurs
